Battle of Elchingen
Arc de Triomphe: ELCHINGEN
October 14, 1805
As the French began to close the trap around the Austrians centered on Ulm, Austrian General Mack ordered Count Riesch and his men to try and break out over the Danube. Meanwhile Napoleon had realized that Mack might attempt to to break out and sent Marshal Ney and the VI Corps to take the bridges at Elchingen. Ney's force attacked and took the bridges, ensuring the Austrian could not escape by that route. Ney was later created Duke of Elchingen for this success.
