Battle of Zürich

Battle of Zürich
Arc de Triomphe: ZURICH

September 25, 1799 - September 26, 1799

The Austro-Russian army commanded by Prince Gortschakoff moved into southern Switzerland, intent on linking up with Suvorov's army. Meanwhile, General Masséna moved to defeat each army in turn and attacked Gorschakoff's force. After two days of fighting, the Austrian-Russian force finally withdrew. This victory led to the Russians withdrawing from the Second Coalition against the French Republic.
